As part of MPOC’s Trade and Networking Visit to Almaty, Kazakhstan and Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2023, tailored Business Matching (BizMatch) sessions were organised to facilitate direct engagement between Malaysian palm oil suppliers and Central Asian buyers. The BizMatch sessions brought together 17 companies from Kazakhstan and 38 companies from Uzbekistan, creating a focused platform for structured discussions on product requirements, market access, and potential supply arrangements. Eleven representatives from seven Malaysian palm oil companies participated in the programme, exploring opportunities to expand their footprint in the region and increase the uptake of Malaysian palm oil and palm-based products. The sessions generated an estimated USD15 million in potential sales, reflecting encouraging commercial interest from both markets. The engagements also provided valuable insights into market dynamics, demand trends and operational challenges, enabling Malaysian suppliers to better position themselves to serve the growing vegetable oils market in Central Asia. The BizMatch outcomes underscored the region’s potential, particularly in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which collectively present significant annual import capacity for palm oil and palm-based products. The programme formed part of MPOC’s continued efforts to support industry expansion into high-potential growth markets and strengthen Malaysia’s presence in emerging regions.
